Head Spa vs Hair Spa: What Is the Difference?

In Phuket you will see both on spa menus, and they sound alike. They are not the same treatment. Here is how to tell them apart and which one to book.

· Luna Soul Spa

A hair spa looks after the hair

A hair spa is mainly about the lengths of your hair: a wash, a nourishing mask or oil, some steam and a blow-dry. It is good for dry or sun-damaged hair and usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.

A head spa looks after the scalp

A head spa starts at the roots. The scalp is checked — at Luna Soul with a magnifying camera — then cleansed with a detox scrub, treated with a mask under steam and rinsed under a hydrotherapy water ring. A long massage of the head, neck and shoulders runs through it all. Most programmes take 90 to 120 minutes and end with a blow-dry.

Which one should you book?

  • Choose a hair spa if your hair feels dry or frizzy after the beach and you are short on time.
  • Choose a head spa if your scalp feels oily, itchy or tight, or if you simply want to rest — many guests fall asleep under the water ring.
  • Choose both if you want the full reset: our Luna Signature Head Spa includes a keratin hair mask and a blow-dry.
